The shutter release and lock came off from the top plate of my Yashica Electro 35 GX.
I did however managed to put it back in place and the exposure system was not affected, however, I would like to ascertain a proper procedure to put it back in place and have the locking mechanism work.
Can some one suggest a workshop manual source for this camera, as the one found on Amazon for $1 doesn't show all the stages needed to overhaul the camera?
Regards,

Sangetsu and others recommended replacing the top plate altogether and solder hot shoe cable again.
I haven't tested yet but everything seems to be in place and working. I have now an original top plate to tinker with the shutter release!!

I have a hard copy, check the Yashica Guy website.
Hi Pentax Junkie,
(all my SLR's are Pentax! BTW)
I tried the Yashica Guy website and couldn't find anything for the FC.
The hunt continues........

I too haven't seen FC's manual. Best bet would be nicely ask someone having hard copy to either scan'n'publish or send you paper copy.
what kinda trouble are you having with it? from pictures it seems to be a fairly standard aperture priority camera. set film speed, set desired aperture, focus, shoot. lights to warn you of slow speeds and that's about it. a standard yashica electro manual should suffice.
FC sports kind of flashmatic system, that's different from 35 G/GS/GSN. Yashica Guy gives some info to start with.
And I think, FC fires on 1/30 when flash attached, like GX does.

just a heads-up that I've newly acquired a fc and I'm also looking for a manual.
if only to have something to devour till I get my hands on batteries~

hi, i just bought the electro 35 fc on the flea market and i have no clue what that black knob on the back is for, (and how the slow/over display is working, but i'm sure that's explained in the normal manual..) can someone explain that to me ?
Isn't it a battery check button, on back? I'm just guessing, though.
in the meantime i realised, that if i pressed it, there is a little lamp blinking in the front, so i guess you are right ^^
catzi, you mean that next to vievfinder winder? Blinking not simply lighting? Ummm..I simply DO NOT believe people at Yashica made battery check such awkward way. BC lamp should be placed near BC button, not on opposite side of camera - how one could see it while pressing button?
There's something behind it...

no blinking, but lighning ;)
my first thought was, that it ist for people not starring directly in the camera.. Terrae expugnandae 5.0 download. you know what i mean?
like a distraction..
'look at the light' -and shoot!

That sounds like a AF-assist lamp :D
when does that lamp lights? when you release shutter or when button on back is depressed?
I had idea it could be light sensor for flash, kind of auto-flash feature for old manual flashguns. But if it lights it's something different.
EDIT:
seems, I've got something. 'The Yashica Electro 35 FC is equipped with an electronic timer with an indicator' next to picture with little lamp near VF window.

English is not my native language, I think on that picture is a button? So far from bits of info on Net I have concluded that FC has electronic timer, instead of mechanical. Moving lever on lens barrel, selftimer is activated and lamp..maybe blinks?
Battery check on that picture could light up light in frame counter, at least in similar GX model it works that way.
If things go on smoothly, maybe I could shed some light after a week or two.

yeah, i mean the button. thanks for you help. i really appriciate it
I guessed FC has B.C. light in frame counter as visually similar GX has. Wrong!
FC lights up little lamp on front next to VF window, also lit when electronic self-timer is activated. FC doesn't has mechanical ST.

it has an electrical self-timer? hm. never got mine to work anyway.
I think the lamp is awkward but ok as an emergency torch~

Yeah, you push it towards lens barrel (there is arrow on ST lever) and down, I can't describe it more clearly. After that push shutter release button (lamp shortly comes on, and then goes off) and after about 10sec. shutter releases.
i thought that was a bulb function ^^
Howcome most of the images I got out of my FC seem a bit over exposed? Is there some sort of fix I can do to the metering system? Or some film I can use for both colored and black and white?
Best sort of fix is to adjust ISO dial. If readings deviate from baseline in non-linear way (depending on light level or ISO used) then you are out of luck.
Both my Electro RF's underexpose, 35G by two stops and 35FC by three stops. That happens with mercury cells, though, probably modern cells will give different readings.
Big deal, I can use faster film than oficially allowed, simply adjusting ISO lever or dial.

Hello everyone,
I know this discussion is some years old, but the Yashica Electro 35 FC manual has finally arrived!
My story: I got a 35 FC last year, it turned out to be non-functional so I wanted the manual - perhaps I was doing something wrong. I searched for the manual then - there wasn't one online. I saw this discussion and I tried to buy the manual somewhere. Nothing. A couple of weeks ago I saw someone selling a 35 FC with the original box and instruction manual. So I bought this 35 FC and - lo and behold - the camera works! (at least appears to change the shutter time - I still have to run a roll through it).
Anyway, to the point: I have scanned the manual and you can find it here:
www.flickr.com/photos/132762513@N04/sets/7215766086642079..
Good quality scan, no watermarks, no annoying first page, no donations necessary - free for all to download and print and to do whatever you want with it. Eat that, Butkus!
PS. I will also scan the box and upload it here later.

Hello again,
as promised, I have scanned the box and added it to the 35 FC manual album.
I have also scanned and uploaded the manual and the box (very very worn, unfortunately - i had to glue the layers of paper coming apart at the corners) for the standard Electro 35 - first version. My Electro 35 is from 1967, I believe.
Perhaps someone will make a cool T-shirt design out of these. I'd love an Electro 35 T-shirt - the box graphics are beyond cool.
Enjoy.

great work. That Electro atom symbol would look good on a tee shirt, I always thought.
I think you can do stuff like that at Redbubble, upload designs and order tees, anything you want really.
